Allison Mickel
Associate Professor of Anthropology  and Director of Global Studies Program
Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Global Studies Program, Lehigh University

Prof. Allison Mickel will present research from her forthcoming book, Turning over the Spade: Startup Approaches to Archaeological Labor. Her book explores how local communities in Jordan are overturning 200 years of colonial history in how archaeology and cultural heritage is managed in the country. The global structures of the heritage regime haven't made it easy, but two startup companies have been surprisingly successful in finding footholds of power and building capacity among local communities in Jordan.
